The Island Christmas Bash have teamed up with the University of Utah’s Pacific Islander Student Association (PISA) and Pacific Islander Medical Student Association (PIMSA), and Salt Lake Community College’s Pacific Unity Association (PUA) to help bring awareness to issues that are pertinent within Pacific Islander Communities. In association with the concert, the Pacific Islander students from these organizations will be holding panel discussions, religious firesides, and community forums to help promote Unity, Education, and Health Awareness.
All students can receive $5 off their concert ticket w/student ID if purchased at the Center for Ethnic Student Affairs at the University of Utah, please call 801-587-9570 for more information about discount tickets.
Recognizing the increasing numbers of young Pacific Islanders afflicted by leukemia, immune diseases or genetic disorders and the lack of Pacific Islanders in the donor registry banks, the concert organizers have decided to use this event to help build a Pacific Islander Genetics Bank, which can help to increase the chances of life for any Pacific Islander who might have to face these unfortunate circumstances. The concert organizers will host two Bone Marrow Drives on:
November 30, 2007 @ Salt Lake Community College
Friday, December 07, 2007 @ the E-Center
Please come out and support this worthy cause, which is dedicated to all families who have lost a loved one because of lack of donors. This is also in memory of Kingston Aiono, who passed away earlier this year from Duncan’s disease. The concert organizers hope that increasing the Pacific Islander Genetics Bank will give hope to Kingston’s younger brother Phoenix Aiono who has been diagnosed with the same disease and also give hope to all other Pacific Islanders who is currently facing or may have to face similar circumstances in the future.
